When planning your summer holidays, you often imagine sunshine, beaches, and blue skies. However, some very popular destinations are not ideal during this period: rainy season, extreme heat, or overtourism can completely change the travel experience.
1. Thailand: the rainy season
Summer corresponds to the monsoon season in much of the country. As a result: heavy downpours, high humidity, and sometimes rough seas.
Islands such as Phuket or Krabi are particularly affected. The landscapes remain beautiful, but sunshine is not guaranteed and some activities may be limited.
2. Dubai: extreme heat
In summer, the heat becomes overwhelming, with temperatures often exceeding 40°C, along with high humidity.
Even outdoor activities become difficult during the day, and everything mainly takes place indoors (shopping malls, hotels, air-conditioned restaurants).
3. Mykonos & Santorini: overtourism and soaring prices
These two Greek islands are stunning… but in summer they are extremely crowded.
Between cruise ships, influencers, and tourists from all over the world, the streets are packed, prices are very high, and the experience is far less peaceful than in the off-season.
If you want to fully enjoy them, prefer May–June or September.
4. Australia: it’s winter!
When it’s summer in Europe, it’s winter in Australia. Temperatures are therefore cooler, especially in the south (Sydney, Melbourne).
It’s not necessarily something to “avoid,” but it’s not the ideal season if you’re looking for warmth and paradise beaches.
