What are the seasonal fruits and vegetables in Hong Kong

29 January 2026

Hong Kong has a subtropical climate that heavily influences local harvests. The seasons are distinct, with hot and humid summers and mild winters. For French expatriates, knowing the seasonality helps them better enjoy local markets and consume more flavorful and affordable products.

In spring (March to May), the first eggplants, zucchini, spinach, bok choy, cucumbers, tomatoes, and green beansarrive. It is also the season for strawberries, pineapples, and Asian melon.

In summer (June to September), abundance is present: mangoes, watermelons, lychees, longans, bananas, papayas, melons, as well as peppers, okra, tomatoes, cucumbers, and leafy vegetables. Tropical fruits are particularly flavorful during this period.

In autumn (October to November), it’s time for local apples, Asian pears, grapes, persimmons, cabbage, broccoli, squash, carrots, and sweet potatoes. This is a very popular season for its milder and more comforting produce.

In winter (December to February), the cooler climate allows for good harvests: cauliflower, broccoli, leeks, spinach, radishes, turnips, and citrus fruits (oranges, mandarins, pomelos). Leafy vegetables are particularly abundant.

Eating seasonally in Hong Kong means enjoying the agricultural richness of Southern China, discovering new Asian flavors, and optimizing the freshness of the produce. A simple and delicious way to integrate into local life.
