Where to go for a run in Sydney

24 April 2026

Sydney is clearly one of the best cities in the world for running: between the ocean, bays, vast parks, and skyline, you can switch up the scenery without ever getting bored. Here are the best running spots in Sydney, with routes suited to all levels.

1. Bondi to Coogee: the iconic run

This is THE must-do route.

You run along the Pacific Ocean for about 6 km, passing Tamarama, Bronte, and Clovelly. The scenery is incredible: cliffs, turquoise beaches, stairs, and small coves… but also a few challenging climbs.

2. The Bay Run (Iron Cove): perfect for pace

Located in the Inner West, this approximately 7 km loop is completely flat.

It’s the ideal spot if you want to:

  • run at an easy pace or do intervals
  • stay close to the water on a loop
  • meet locals (lots of runners and cyclists)

The vibe is very “neighbourhood life,” with cafés and bay views.

3. Centennial Park: easy & safe spot

A large green park with wide, flat loops.

Perfect for:

  • beginners
  • easing back into running
  • long distances without traffic

You can easily adjust your route (3 km, 5 km, 10 km+ loops).

4. Circular Quay

A highly aesthetic urban run.

You pass by:

  • the Sydney Opera House
  • the Sydney Harbour Bridge
  • the Royal Botanic Gardens

It’s flat, smooth, and perfect for a sunset run with skyline views.

5. Sydney Harbour National Park

This national park surrounds several areas of Sydney Harbour and protects very natural coastal landscapes, just minutes from the city centre.

Here you run through:

  • wild coastal trails
  • secluded beaches
  • Australian bush (eucalyptus, dense vegetation)
  • panoramic views over Sydney Harbour

It’s one of the best places to completely disconnect from the city without actually leaving it.

Few cities allow you to switch so easily between ocean, wild nature, and an iconic skyline within just a few kilometres. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced runner, Sydney turns every run into a visual and sensory experience.
